Egypt's Technical Achievements
The Ox-Drawn Plow
An ox-drawn plow was used as a farming tool. This was one of the most important tools used for agriculture. How it worked was, they attach a plow to an ox and have them walk around the farm lands to loosen the dirt. This way is much faster than having human hands do it.http://www.infoniac.com/science/top-10-inventions-of-ancient-egypt.html

The Calender
The Egyptians invented the idea of calenders based off the flood cycle from the Nile. The Nile river would flood at a certain time period during the year. They would remember the time and it gave the idea of the calender. The calenders helped them know when it was best to irrigate their land. http://ancientech.wordpress.com/2013/01/07/top-15-egyptian-inventions-and-innovations/

CEE Paragraph: How advanced was the ancient Egyptian society?
The ancient Egyptian society was very advanced due to their great technological achievements and inventions, which helped them in their daily lives. For example, the social studies textbook reads, "About 5000 years ago, they noticed that a star now called Sirius appeared shortly before the Nile began to flood. The star returned to the same position in 365 days. Based on that, Egyptians developed the world's first practical calendar." Due to Egypt's advanced astronomy, they were able to develop a calendar which not only helped keep track of the flood, but also helps billions of people in our world today. Another example is stated on page 158 of the textbook, "The Egyptians also developed a paper-like material called papyrus from a reed of the same name." Later on it says, "Papyrus scrolls were light and easy to carry. With them, Egyptians created some of the first books." Egyptians were so technologically advanced that they were able to come up with a new material for writing, instead of the heavy clay tablets used in Ancient Mesopotamia. Papyrus scrolls were easier to use and transport than clay tablets, which made the lives of the Egyptians easier than those in Mesopotamia. In addition, http://www.ducksters.com/history/ancient_egypt/inventions_and_technology.php says, "For numbers they used a decimal system. They didn't have numerals for 2-9 or zero. They just had numbers for factors of 10 such as 1, 10, 100, etc. In order to write the number 3 they would write down three number 1s. To write the number 40, they would write down four number 10s." The Egyptians needed a technological understanding of numbers to be able to build pyramids and keep track of transactions. In result, they developed a mathematics system, which, though different from our modern day math, helped develop what we now call mathematics. In conclusion, the ancient Egyptian technological achievements and inventions were so advanced that their ideas inspired many inventions of the modern day.
