Q: What was your childhood like?
A: Well, I really enjoyed hunting, swimming, and studying when I was in my younger ages.
Q: How did you die and how long did you live?
A: It was believed that I died when we were at war with the Hittites and I suddenly died during the confrontation. Some believed that I was murdered. I died when I was about 18 or 19 and it had been my 10th year ruling.
Q: What were your beliefs? Who did you worship? What were the results of your religious acts?
A: Though my father believed in one god - the Aton, I worshiped the god named Amun. I changed my name and my wife's name to reflect my beliefs toward Amun. In addition, I threw lavish parties to show my support towards Amun.

Interview with Ramses II

Q: When did your reign begin? When did your reign end? And how long were you the ruler?
A: My reign began in 1279 B.C., and ended in 1213 B.C., when I was more than 90 years old. I reigned for 66 years.
Q: What are some of your accomplishments and creations?
A: First of all, I built a city called the House of Ramses. Also, I had four 66-foot statues of myself guarding my temple. The ears of my statues were three feet long! Instead of my statues resembling how I really looked, I wanted them to appear god-like. But something I find really cool is that I negotiated the first known peace treaty in world history.
Q: How did you benefit Egypt's territory?
A: Well, I was able to extend Egypt's territory south into the African kingdom of Nubia. In addition, the empire stretched to the eastern rim of the Mediterranean Sea. My army went into battle with the Hittites, our neighboring empire, and unfortunately were not able to conquer their land. Nobody really won the war, with only a peace treaty as the result.

CEE Paragraph: Why was the government of Egypt stable under Ramses II?
The government of Egypt was stable under the rule of Ramses II because of the length of his reign and his bold accomplishments. For example, page 176 of the social studies textbook states, "Ramses II reigned until 1213 B.C., when he was more than 90 years old. Having one ruler for 66 years made the Egyptian government stable." Like the quote mentioned, Ramses II's reign lasted for 66 years. This is among the longest reigns in world history. His lengthy reign made the government stable because they followed the same rules and lifestyle for a long time, without having to go through change that might have caused instability. In addition, an example of one of his accomplishments, from page 176 of the textbook says, "His real success came after the battle. The treaty he negotiated with the Hittites was the first known peace treaty in world history." Negotiating the first peace treaty gave Ramses great power, with the rest of the empire approving of him. Because they were pleased with their ruler, they obeyed his orders and rules, resulting in a stable empire. Also, the textbook says, "After the treaty with the Hittites, no enemy threatened Egypt while Ramses ruled." Resulting from the treaty, which Ramses was a part of, the Egyptians earned safety from other lands for a long period of time. They didn't have to worry about the danger of attacks from others. Because they weren't attacked, they were able to save the money that would have been needed to repair damaged areas, resulting in a stable government. To conclude, the Egyptian government was stable under Ramses II's rule because he had important accomplishments during his long reign.
